What Is a Diamond Living Hinge?
A diamond living hinge is built from elongated diamond-shaped outlines. Every diamond is a closed path of four edges with its tips pointing left and right; the width at the centre is much smaller than the length. Rows run horizontally and every second row is shifted by half a pitch, so the tips of one row sit in the gaps between the diamonds of the neighbouring rows.
The material between the outlines is what keeps the plate in one piece: the gap between the tips within a row and the slanted strip between the edges of offset rows. Because the outlines are closed, the surface stays calm and even; the pattern is the diamond counterpart to the hexagon hinge with a slimmer look.

Row Spacing Sets the Flex
A smaller vertical gap puts more rows across the bend line. The tips of the offset row move closer to the slanted edges of their neighbours—the generator keeps the 1 mm clearance and reports when it cannot.
Keep the Bridges Wide
The horizontal gap between diamond tips is the load-bearing bridge. Stay at 3 mm or more in plywood; thinner bridges snap when the hinge is bent repeatedly.
Bend Direction
The pattern bends around a horizontal axis. Orient the part so the rows run parallel to the bend line, and align the grain of plywood along the rows.
Align to Edges
With the edge alignment switched on, whole rows and pitches fit the plate and every second row ends with half diamonds on the side edges—the pattern looks the same at both ends of the hinge.
